Educational events will move forward this week in Silicon Valley CA as the USA and the world observe the 41st anniversary of the July 20 Apollo 11 Moon landing. On July 19, the Ames Research Center and NASA Lunar Science Institute will sponsor the ‘2nd Annual Next Generation Lunar Scientists and Engineers Workshop.’ Limited to 30 participants, the conference will offer training on how to successfully communicate scientific research in various settings as well as feature presentations from leading lunar scientists and engineers. On Jul 20-22 the ‘3rd NASA Lunar Science Forum’ will be held at the Ames Conference Center. The event will include over 130 poster sessions as well as plenary sessions covering recent data from the LRO and LCROSS. Presentations will be given by Tony Colaprete (BC) on ‘Water and More: An Overview of LCROSS Impact Results’ and Paul Spudis (BR) on ‘Results for the Poles of the Moon from Mini-SAR, Chandrayaan-1 Mission.’ On July 22-Aug 1, Girl Scouts of Northern California and the Ames Research Center will hold ‘Girl Scout Destination: The Future is Green,’ where young girls will have the opportunity to explore how green technology in astronomy, robotics and the environment can help the Earth. The Space Frontier Foundation will hold its NewSpace 2010 Annual Advocates Meeting on Jul 22 and ‘NewSpace 2010: Ready For Take-Off’ on July 23-25. The event will also feature the ‘NewSpace Awards Gala’ to recognize achievements of rocketeers, futuristic thinkers, and space enthusiasts from around the world. Farnborough International Airshow to Advance Aerospace Business, Education
One of the world’s most iconic global aviation events, the biennial Farnborough International Airshow (FIA), will be held on July 19-25 in Farnborough, UK. The show begins with 5 trade days providing tailor- made and unrivaled opportunities for some 1,300 exhibitors from the private, commercial, civil and military sectors of 40 different countries to meet, negotiate and announce business transactions. FIA organizers expect another record breaking year for business, with transactions possibly eclipsing the US$88.7B worth of orders announced during the 2008 show. During the public days of the airshow, an estimated 150,000 international visitors will have the opportunity to witness over 150 static and flying aircraft displays. Other attractions include the Space Zone, an area dedicated to Futures in Aerospace featuring Roaming Robots, the Bloodhound supersonic car, 29 International Pavilions, the Mars Rover and exhibition halls including the new Space Pavilion. A new program called ‘Inspiring Young Minds towards a Career in Aerospace, Defense and Security’ will launch as part of Futures Day on July 23.
