2014 EGU General Assembly Advances Earth, Planetary and Space Sciences
The 2014 European Geosciences Union General Assembly is set to take place in Vienna, Austria on April 27 – May 2. The conference has been given a theme for the first time, The Face of the Earth – Process and Form. Günter Blöschl (T) of the Vienna University of Technology will welcome 11,000 attendees and give keynotes on each of the 5 subtopics covering the diversity of geoscience processes and associated forms from the core of the Earth to interplanetary space: Rocks of the Earth, Waters of the Earth, Life of the Earth, Atmosphere of the Earth, and Space and the Earth. As part of the ‘Great Debate’ session Nicholas Arndt of Joseph Fourier University will present ‘Metals in our backyard: To mine or not to mine?’ and Paul Quinn of the University of Newcastle will present ‘Geoengineering the climate: The way forward?’ Other sessions cover geodynamics, geomorphology, Earth magnetism, soil systems, volcanology and tectonics. Space topics include evolutionary paths of the Solar System planets, Lunar science & exploration, exoplanets, space instrumentation, planetary landers and rovers. Dmitrij Titov of ESA will give a private talk on Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (JUICE) on Apr 28.
