SUMMARY:Astronaut / Moonworker Buzz Aldrin Starts 97th Year
DESCRIPTION:As USA prepares to send people to the Moon this year\, today Buzz Aldrin is celebrated for being part on the 1st human mission on the Moon\, arriving as the Lunar Module “Eagle” pilot that also brought Neil Armstrong there on the Apollo 11 mission in 1969. He is credited with developing key rendezvous and docking techniques for spacecraft\, and for pioneering underwater training methods to simulate spacewalking. \nHe is the author of books Return to Earth (an autobiography) and Men from Earth (about the Apollo Program). \nAsteroid 6470 Aldrin and Aldrin Crater on the Moon are named in his honor.

SUMMARY:Rocky Worlds 4
DESCRIPTION:In-person registrations for the conference are full // Registration for virtual participation is open. \nThe planets that are best understood are the four terrestrial planets of our own solar system. Applying the detailed understanding gleaned from these bodies is crucial in our interpretation of exoplanetary systems. With the ongoing programs to search for planets around nearby stars\, as well as upcoming ground- and space-based surveys\, we can anticipate huge growth in the number and information on detected rocky exoplanets in the coming decades. As the characterisation of these new planetary systems proceeds it will in turn improve understanding of our own solar system\, and in particular of how potentially habitable Earth-like planets may form\, evolve\, and are distributed throughout the galaxy. \nThe Rocky Worlds Meeting Series aims to bring together planetary scientists\, astronomers\, and earth scientists to foster discussion and build the collaborations that will pave the way for the next decade of rocky exoplanet discovery and characterisation.

SUMMARY:Webinar: In search of our origins: from the birth of stars to the emergence of life
DESCRIPTION:18:00 CEST; Grégoire Danger\, Professor at Aix-Marseille University (PIIM Laboratory – Physics of Ionic and Molecular Interactions) presents. \nWhat environmental conditions could have allowed the emergence of living systems on Earth 4.1 billion years ago? \nTo try and find answers to this question\, we will begin in the star-forming regions to understand the origin of organic matter in our solar system\, and end up on the surface of Earth a few hundred million years after its formation. We will try to determine whether the emergence of life systems on Earth is a unique event\, or whether it could have occurred on other planets. \nFree entry / Booking required.\nYou can book your places by phone at 04 77 33 43 01 or by email specifying the number and a phone number: planetarium@saint-etienne.fr\nLimited number of places\, from 12 years old.
