SUMMARY:Webinar: In Dialog with the Space Evangelists: Spreading the Word of "Why Space"
DESCRIPTION:11:00-12:30 EDT; In this special program\, Beyond Earth President Steve Wolfe invites some of his space evangelist friends to join in a dialogue on answering the perennial question of why we go to space. At a moment when the space policy discourse is dominated by concerns for economic growth and geopolitical competition\, Beyond Earth thought it would be a good time\, as we enter the Holiday Season\, to take a step back and reflect on what all this space activity means for the future of the human family. \nThe guests on this Beyond Earth special webinar are some of the most influential voices in spreading the word about the coming age of space settlement. Frank White\, author of The Overview Effect\, and Rick Tumlinson\, author of the just-released Why Space?: The Purpose of People\, have inspired multiple generations over the past 40 years to embrace the space vision. Courtney Stadd has spent an equal amount of time as the consummate behind-the-scenes evangelist\, nudging the political apparatus toward a more vibrant space future. Loretta Hidalgo Whitesides\, founder of Yuri’s Night and author of The New Right Stuff\, has been energizing people for over 20 years. And Samantha (VNCCII) Tauber is a young performing and graphic artist whose message about space settlement is reaching a whole new generation. \nPlease join us for what will undoubtedly be a soulful and uplifting program. \nPanel includes: \n\nSteve Wolfe\, President\, Beyond Earth Institute and author of The Obligation (Moderator)\nFrank White\, author of The Overview Effect\, and\nRick Tumlinson\, Founder of Earthlight Foundation and author of Why Space?: The Purpose of People\,\nCourtney Stadd\, Executive Vice President\, Beyond Earth Institute\nLoretta Hidalgo Whitesides\, Founder of Yuri’s Night and SpaceKind and author of The New Right Stuff\nSamantha Tauber\, Creative Polymath\, Visioneer\, and Author of Galactaissance and the VNCCII Awakening

SUMMARY:Lecture: The Search for Life on Saturn’s Intriguing Moon Enceladus
DESCRIPTION:Silicon Valley Astronomy Lecture Series\, Celebrating its 26th anniversary\, Presents Dr. Alfonso Davila (NASA Ames Research Center) for a free\, illustrated\, non-technical lecture entitled:\nThe Search for Life on Saturn’s\, Intriguing Moon Enceladus \nLocation: Smithwick Theater\, Foothill College\, Los Altos\nFree Admission \nIn 2005\, the Cassini spacecraft made a groundbreaking discovery—it found a massive plume of ice and gas erupting from the south pole of Enceladus\, a small but geologically active moon of Saturn. The plume is now believed to originate from a subsurface ocean of liquid water beneath the moon’s icy crust\, with conditions compatible with life\, as we know it. This talk will focus on our current understanding of Enceladus’ plume and subsurface ocean\, and on strategies to search in them for possible evidence of life.

SUMMARY:2025 International Conference on Space Robotics
DESCRIPTION:The International Conference on Space Robotics (iSpaRo) is a new conference aiming to provide a framework for scientists and industry experts to engage in fruitful discussions and share their insights on the emerging topic of Space Robotics. In the last decade\, the advances in in-orbit servicing and satellite operations\, the renewed interest in the Moon\, recent discoveries in the exploration of Mars and Near-Earth Asteroids (NEAs)\, together with the emergence of new ventures aimed at the prospection\, extraction\, and utilization of space resources have sparked a new wave of research and commercial opportunities. Traditional and new space companies are pushing the limits of in-space activities with robotics as the disruptive technology and enabler of the next advances in this new space era.  \n\n\niSpaRo seeks to fill the gap between established robotics conferences and non-per-reviewed aerospace conferences by allowing the research community and industry professionals to engage in rigorous discussions and share their latest findings in the field. The conference aims to push the boundaries of the field of Space Robotics by exploring new research and development opportunities. The conference will feature speakers from both industry and academia\, providing attendees with valuable insights and perspectives on the latest advancements in the field. The iSpaRo conference also aims to create a network of researchers and industry professionals on this topic\, including the new generations\, fostering future collaborations and innovations.
