SUMMARY:Explore Space on Earth with the Planetary Society
DESCRIPTION:Explore the Moon and Planets without leaving Earth with other like-minded members of the Planetary Society! A portion of your registration fee will be donated to the Planetary Society to help further their mission to Advance Space Exploration. \nJoin an expertly-guided tour of New Mexico’s planetary analog sites and real astronaut training grounds with life-long Planetary Society member and NASA-funded planetary geologist Dr. Kirby Runyon. We’ll also venture to Virgin Galactic’s launch site at Spaceport America and see what a fun departure point from Earth it is for so many private astronauts. Try your hand on a simulated space mission at Las Cruces’ Challenger Learning Center and peruse New Mexico’s space history at the New Mexico Museum of Space History. \nApproximate itinerary (subject to change due to availability and weather): Oct. 15: Arrive and stay at Best Western El Paso Airport Entrada Hotel or Wyndham El Paso Airport Hotel and Water Park; informal meet and greet at the Wyndham hotel bar. Oct. 16: Challenger Learning Center\, Spaceport America and Virgin Galactic. Oct. 17: Museum of Space History\, Carrizozo Lava Flow\, White Sands National Park\, Dinner at Casa El Camino. Oct. 18: Kilbourne Hole\, Aden Crater and/or Challenger Learning Center. Oct. 19: Depart for home. Note that the Aden Crater visit is the only stop with any degree of strenuous walking or hiking\, which involves about 2 miles total of walking on rough terrain.

SUMMARY:Launch H3 / Martian Moons eXploration (MMX)
DESCRIPTION:Japan’s first Mars mission is planned to conduct observations of Mars\, Phobos & Deimos\, to land on Phobos to collect samples and return them to Earth. Led by JAXA with major contributions from international partners including NASA\, ESA\, CNES\, and DLR. Scheduled for launch in late 2026\, the mission aims to determine the origin of Mars’ moons\, Phobos and Deimos\, by investigating whether they are captured asteroids or remnants of a giant impact debris ring. \nThe spacecraft will arrive at Mars in 2027\, where it will study both moons and deploy a small French-German rover named Idefix to navigate the low-gravity surface of Phobos. MMX will then use coring and pneumatic samplers to collect more than 10 grams of regolith from Phobos before leaving Martian orbit in 2030 and returning the sample capsule to Earth in 2031.
